Tribute & Message From The Family

Robert Allen Hanlon Sr., passed away on, October 17, 2018 at St. Patrick's Residence, Naperville, Illinois. He was born September 29, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the youngest child of Homer and Ada (Harper) Hanlon. At age 2, his parents, with his two older brothers, Wallace and Paul, moved to Batavia, Illinois, where his parents opened Hanlon Button Service and Supply, making custom covered buttons, belts, and ladies dresses and performing alterations. Bob worked in the business while in high school.

Bob graduated from Batavia High School in 1956 and played on the football, basketball and track teams. He was a lifeguard at the Batavia Quarry.
After graduation, Bob took a year off from school. At a mutual friend's house in Aurora, he met his future wife, Joy Quigley, whom he thought was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen. While attending the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, they were married. The young couple moved to Eureka, California for a short time after they were married. They returned to Aurora to live, where their only daughter, Monica Rae was born, followed by their two sons, Robert Jr., and James.

Bob had knack for sales and he was a sales representative for office and library furniture. Most recently, he worked for Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Grove. He loved sports and was a founder of the Aurora Eagles Roller Hockey team and served as team captain. Bob had a passion for fishing, bow hunting and golf. He especially loved golfing with his daughter, Monica, granddaughter, Lauren and son-in-law, Lamont. He loved travel and trips to Las Vegas with Joy. Bob always got pleasure from reading a good book, conversations with people, laughing and enjoying life and family time. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Yorkville.

Bob is leaving the children he loved so much, Monica (Lamont) Jennings of Bristol, Bob Jr and James (Jackie) of Aurora. His four granddaughters, Julia Jennings of Albany, NY, Lauren Jennings of Bristol and Megan and Nicole Hanlon of Elburn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Louise Quigley of Aurora, dozens of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Joy; parents, Homer and Ada; brothers, Wallace (Sue) and Paul (Claudia); his mother and father-in-law, Lena and Jerald Quigley. His brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Norma), William, Robert (Ann), Fred (Elaine) and Douglas (Betty) Quigley, Don Stafford and Howard Anderson. His sister-in-law, Geraldine Stafford Anderson.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Another one of our beloved elders has joined the rest in heaven. It made me cry to see my grandparents names in the obituary but they are all together now and Aunt Joy has her other half in paradise. I like to think of them all as young people again today get her laughing and reminiscing. My condolences.

With love, Krystal Quigley, great-niece, Rockford, IL Oct 29, 2018
