Message From The Family

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the donor's choice.

Eugene M. Love, 77, of Aurora, Il passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Rush Copley Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother Jessie Love and infant daughter Laurie Ann Love. Eugene was born on December 24, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to the Aurora area in his early years with his mother and 4 siblings: James Love, Pat Bergner, Sharon Lee and Anne Kundert.

Eugene began his employment at General Mills in West Chicago in 1968 and tirelessly worked his way up the ranks to management where he finally retired 34 years later. During his time at General Mills, he started an Emergency Response Team and trained people to be responders for 13 years.
Eugene joined the Naval Reserves in 1958 and received his orders to report for active duty when he graduated. He was assigned to the Flag Ship USS Des Moines for 2 years and was stationed in the Mediterranean Sea. He married his high school sweetheart Janice Jones on March 7, 1961 on a 5 day leave and received his honorable discharge on July 14, 1961.

After spending time working on the railroad and as a mechanic Eugene finally found his niche with General Mills. During this time, Eugene also joined the Sugar Grove Fire Department in 1968 and worked his way up to chief. He retired from the department in 1998.

Eugene spent his life doing what he loved. That included boating, camping, fishing, traveling, devoting his time to disaster relief and helping those in need. He also loved his garden that he continued until he was physically unable to care for it. He also spent many years volunteering with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Habitat for Humanity, Hand Crank Transportation of the Rio Grande Valley, and Campers on Mission. He loved the Rio Grande Valley and traveling to Mexico so much they purchased a park model in Penitas, TX.

In addition to his loving wife, Janice, he is survived by his three daughters Dawn (Mark) Conard, April Hasselberger, and Melodi (Eddie) Hall, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and he leaves behind many more family members and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of your choice.

Have comfort in knowing that God is close to those who are brokenhearted. Because of God's love expressed through the ransom sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ, we can look forward to seeing our loved ones again. He keeps them all in his memory. May you find comfort, strength and hope in the Father of comfort and tender mercies.
