Tribute & Message From The Family

Bruce David Gleason, 71 of Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2018. He was born November 6, 1947 in Joliet, IL, son of the late Roderick and Mary Louise Gleason. He attended St. Jude's Grade School, Lincoln Way High School, and received his bachelors and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University.

In February of 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Georgean Gleason (Janner) and settled in Aurora, IL the following year to start his teaching career. He taught art to students of all ages in District 129 and college students at Aurora University. He went on to be a classroom teacher at Freeman Elementary and ended his career teaching social studies at Jewel Middle School. While he enjoyed teaching, his family was his love and Bruce dedicated his life to raising four happy, confident, kind children.

Since retirement in 2003, Bruce spent his time exploring Europe, Canada, and the US with this wife, renovating a 1920's bungalow in Asheville, NC, golfing as much as humanly possible, watching the Cubs win a World Series, and enjoying time with his nine beautiful grandchildren.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Georgean Gleason; children, David (Stacey Meekins) Gleason, Katy (Rob) Estrada, Peter (Rachelle) Gleason, Kristine (Jason) Nagy; grandchildren Spencer Gleason, Ella Estrada, Eli Estrada, Lucas Estrada, Jonah Gleason, Mayah Gleason, Noah Gleason, Cameron Nagy, and Lydia Nagy.

Along with his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Roderick Gleason and his sister, Marilu Anderson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 10 AM until time of service 12 PM at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Me. Gleason was a saint to have one of the rowdiest second grade classes at Freeman and then follow us to the sixth grade 4 years later. Truly saddened to hear of his passing as he was a great teacher.

I consider myself lucky to have had Mr. Gleason as my art teacher at Goodwin many years ago. I was not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, but Mr. Gleason always found something positive to say about my work. He always had a positive attitude and I enjoyed my time in his art room. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

I was fortunate to transfer to Freeman School and into Mr. Gleason's classroom in the 4th grade. He made me so very welcome and encouraged the other students to do the same. Coincidentally, I was a 3rd grade student of Mrs. Gleason's at McCleery the previous year. I have remembered both over my life as two of my favorite teachers. My deepest condolences on the loss of this wonderful man.

His legacy will be carried on not only with his children and grandchildren, but in all those who were taught by Bruce throughout his career. My condolences and warm, loving wishes to the family.
