Tribute & Message From The Family

José (Papote) Antonio Rivera, age 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Amita Mercy Hospital in Aurora, IL, enduring a long list of medical conditions. Jose is survived by; his wife, María Rivera who he married on July 22, 1989; his four children, Jose (Amanda), Manuel (Ivett), Gabriela and Margie; his sister, Rosita (Ismael) Gonzalez; his four nieces Laura, Jessica (Harry), Brenda (Peter) and Gina; and his great nephew Elijah Rocha. Jose was preceeded in death by his parents, Rosa Maria Rivera and Jose Antonio Rivera and stepfather Manuel López.

José was born on November 15th, 1956, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to José Antonio and Rosa Maria Rivera. He was raised in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. Jose worked many years as a Parent Liaison at Oak Park Elementary School in Aurora, where he was greatly loved by the staff and the parents he worked with. He loved his job and strived to build the relationships between the parents, the teachers and staff.

José had a lifelong passion for music. He played the saxophone along with a few other instruments. He played in a band in Puerto Rico and also with salsa groups Chevere and Banda Rica after he moved to Illinois. José also had a love for classic cars, specifically the '67 Volkswagen Beetle. He loved collecting model cars and attending car shows with his children. Jose loved the Lord and was a man of God. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Private services will be held with a burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Aurora, IL.

Jose was a wonderful person with the biggest heart who loved everyone. But his eyes sparkled when he talked about his Maria and kids. It was an honor to have worked with him. RIP Chico

There's no words to Describe the amazing person you was. Very Observant and quiet, with a big heart always there in a time of need, able and available.
