Obituary for Anthony W. Charbauski

November 4, 1953 - July 15, 2020
Aurora, Illinois | Age 66

Anthony (Tony) Walter Charbauski, aged 66 of Aurora, Illinois, died the morning of July 15, 2020, unexpectedly yet surrounded by his two daughters. Born on November 4, 1953, to Albun and Betty Lou (Theurer) Charbauski, Tony was the fifth of eleven children. He graduated from West Aurora High School in 1971, before serving with the 82nd Engineer Battalion in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, he served two years overseas in Bamberg, Germany, as a Combat Engineer, achieving the rank of Specialist. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Following his service, Tony worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Naperville, Illinois and a painter for Caterpillar, Inc.

On December 18, 1977, Tony married Kathleen (Kathy) Susan Schmidt, the love of his life. The two were married for over twenty years and had three beautiful children: Christine Nicole, Christopher Thomas and Jennifer Michelle.

Tony raised his children in Oswego, Illinois, and spent the rest of his life in Aurora, Illinois. Although he was a man of few words, everyone knew Tony. He was kind, a jokester, and willing to do anything for anybody. While Tony was known for his perpetual suntan; grill mastery; and love for swimming, chocolate, and lotto tickets, he was most proud of his granddaughters. Whether taking them for Slurpees, bringing home chocolate, or giving them rides to and from the bus stop each day, he was always there for his girls.

Throughout his life, Tony was a beloved father-figure and uncle to many others, including the five children of Michelle Semetis, his longtime girlfriend, and too many nieces and nephews to count.

Tony is survived by his daughters, Christine Cotto and husband Abraham of Aurora, Illinois and Jennifer Charbauski of Cumming, Georgia; granddaughters, Kiarra, Katie, Klarissa and Kerrington Cotto; siblings, Stan and Dodie Charbauski, Allan and Sharon Charbauski, Gail Overturf, Brenda Charbauski, Jeanne and Jimmy Swindle and Tina and Mark Boyd; and girlfriend Michelle Semetis.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; son, Christopher; parents; and siblings, Pauline McCoy, Lindy Carson, Helen Charbauski and Tracey Charbauski.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 2:00-6:00 pm at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place in Aurora, Illinois. Tony will be buried next to his wife Kathy and son Christopher at a private service.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Tony's memory through contributing to the GoFundMe established to cover his memorial and medical costs:
