Dolores M. Allen, 79 of Sandwich, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich. She was born November 13, 1929 in Aurora, IL the daughter of the late Bernard and Viola (Hayden) Assell.

She graduated from Madonna High School. She was united in marriage on June 9, 1949 to Irwin H. Allen at St. Nicholas' Church in Aurora. They lived all 60 years of their married life in Aurora and Sandwich, Illinois.

Mrs. Allen was a waitress for many years at Elmer's Dog House Restaurant. More recently, she was employed at the Country Market in Sandwich. She was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk.

Dolores is survived by her loving husband, Irwin "Al" Allen of Sandwich, IL; their four children, Keith (Diane) Allen of Plano, IL, Beth (Bob) Sterkel of Sugar Grove, IL, Jeannine (Paul) Forner of Fishers, IN and Lori (Dan) Sherman of Punta Gorda, FL; her eleven grandchildren, Michael (Kiley) Allen, Jeffrey Allen, Jennifer Allen, Chad Sterkel, Drew Sterkel, Amanda (Jason) Gutierrez, Teresa (Brad) Fisher, Jon Forner, Stephen Forner, Brad Sherman and Keith Sherman; her ten great grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Schweikert of Springfield, MO; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Assell and her sister, Marcella Diederich.

Visitation will be held Friday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm November 13, 2009 at The Healy Chapel 370 Division Dr. Sugar Grove , IL. A Funeral Mass will take place Saturday 11:00 a.m. November 14, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (320 S Depot St.) Somonauk, IL. Interment will take place at a later date.
