Donald Hugo Lindstrom, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2009 at his residence in Aurora. He was born April 24, 1926 in Harvey, IL, the son of Hugo and Minnie (Grall) Lindstrom. He was united in marriage to Jodeen Dix on June 12, 1948 in Aurora, IL.
He graduated from East Aurora High School in time to join the Air Force in the concluding months of World War II. He was part owner of the Boulevard Food Store following graduation from Aurora College. He later returned to Aurora College for his teaching credentials and began teaching in the West Aurora High School Social Studies Dept. in the fall of 1962. He earned a Masters plus 30 hours in History and Education from NIU. He was the Student Council Advisor at West Aurora High School for 21 years and an avid West Aurora Basketball fan.
Donald served as a faithful member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church. His commitment to his faith was exhibited through his leadership roles in the church and the community, including teaching Sunday School for over 50 years. He was an inspiration to many past and present members.
Don was an active member of the Aurora Golden K Kiwanis Club and served as President and Secretary. He was named Member of the Year 1999-2000.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jodeen; his two children, Linda (Ham) Mathews of Savage, MN and David (Kathy) Lindstrom of Somonauk, IL; four grandchildren, Heath (Stephanie) Mathews, Heather (Joshua) Mohr, Lisa Lindstrom(Josh Lange), Paul (Blair) Lindstrom; four great-grandchildren, Dominick Todd, Hayden Mohr, Holden Mathews, Chance Lange; a sister, Ellene Watson of Colorado.
Memorial services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. November 14, 2009 at Fourth Street United Methodist Church ( 4th Street and Marion Ave. ) Aurora, IL. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park prior to the service. In keeping with Donald's wishes there will be no visitation. Memorial contributions in Don Lindstrom's name may be directed to Fourth Street United Methodist Church or the Aurora Golden K Kiwanis Club.
