Obituary

Esther M. (Neill) Swanson, 89, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at her home. She was born June 8, 1928 in Aurora, the daughter of the late Earl and Esther Neill.

Esther was a 1946 graduate of West Aurora High School. She then graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and studied under the tutelage of Aurora artist Ruth Van Sickle Ford. Esther was the consummate 1950s homemaker. She was able to combine the raising of her family with the pursuit of her art. In 1961, she won Grand Prize/Best in Show at the Aurora Art League Exhibition for her pen and ink drawing of the Volentine House on Wilder & West Park in Aurora. As a member of St Mark's Lutheran Church, she created many of pieces of art work for display in the church including Christmas manger scenes and Easter garden displays. She was very community minded & used her talent to donate her art to Midwest Greyhound Adoption and The Association for Individual Development fund raisers. She was involved with school & scouting programs while raising her children. Esther supported her husband's work with Salvation Army and West Aurora HS sports boosters.

Esther is survived by her children, Brynne (Paul) Watts, of Huntertown, IN, Martha Swanson, of Aurora, Erik Swanson and Nancy Kazirkis, of Aurora, Kari (John Massa) Swanson, of Sugar Grove and Christopher (Janet) Swanson of Aurora; her grandchildren, Aubrey (Jason) Drake, of Fort Wayne, IN, Aaron (Christine) Watts, of Florence, AZ, Brant Swanson, of Seattle, WA, Matthew Swanson, of Geneva and Julie Nash, of Aurora; her great grandchildren, Kenneth, Emily and Samuel, of Fort Wayne, IN; her sister, Velma Marshall, of Willitts, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Swanson in 1996; her brother and sister in law, Wilmer and Dorothy Neill, a brother in law, Donald Marshall and her grandson, Leif Erik Swanson.

Visitation will take place from 10 A.M. until the start of the memorial service at 11 A.M. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora.

Esther's family wishes to thank Cory, Cora and Michelle of Apex Palliative Care and Holly and Beth of Home Instead for their excellent care over the last few months.
