Obituary

Harold (Ben) S. Bastian, Jr., 93, of Batavia, formerly of Aurora passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Michealsen Health Center. He was born on July 7, 1924, in Aurora, Illinois. Harold was the only child of Harold S. Bastian, Sr. and Alma (Klomhaus) Bastian. He graduated from East Aurora High School in 1942 and attended Aurora College. He was a veteran of World War II. Harold married Margaret Gordon on December 22, 1946. They spent the next 70 years together until her death in May, 2017.

Harold had a career in automobile sales which began at Berthold Hansen Cadillac and continued on with Fran Wibbs Cadillac. In past years he was an active member of the Aurora Noon Lions Club and was honored with the Lion of the Year award. Harold was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora for fifty years and Rejoice Lutheran in Geneva in recent years.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents Harold & Alma Bastian and his son-in-law Michael Zaugra.

Harold is survived by his children, Cynthia Zaugra, Thomas (Ruth) Bastian, Sr. and Jane (Jeffrey) Barrett; his grandchildren, Amy (Kenny) Osorio, Andrew (Sarah) Barrett, Thomas (Margaret) Bastian, Jr., Melissa Zaugra-Rojas, Laura Barrett, Timothy (Jaime) Zaugra, Meredith (Matt) Anderson, Elizabeth (Skyler) Ormsbee and those who called him BOOM – his 15 great-grandchildren, Natalia, Annika & Penelope Osorio, Theo Barrett, Thomas III & Magnus Bastian, Elliana & Jayden Lopez, Izabella Rojas, Jaxon & Cadence Zaugra, Ethan & Jonah Anderson, Benjamin Manikas and Jack Ormsbee.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. until the service hour at Noon at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL, 60506. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rejoice Lutheran Church, 0N377 N. Mill Creek Dr., Geneva, IL, 60134 or to Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity, 1300 S. Broadway, Montgomery, IL, 60538.
