Obituary

Jose Felipe Cardona, Jr., 63, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Central DuPage Hospital. He was born April 28, 1954 in Aurora, IL, the son of Nilda Rosa (Rodriguez) and Jose Felipe Cardona, Sr.

He was a man you wanted in an emergency as he was not one to panic. Thinking before acting irrationally was his modus operandi. He worked 25 years as a volunteer fire warden. By trade, Jose was an accountant and a dedicated one. He always had a sense of pride in what he did and how he did it. Always knowing he had done everything he could, even if it meant covering others.

He always stressed to be yourself and not care about what people think but stay true to who you are and treat the world around you as you would want to be treated, whether it a fellow man or nature, to always respect and demand that same respect from others.

Creatively Jose loved all music, especially The Beatles. You could count on him to always be singing in the car. He relished when his family laughed, but that just made him sing louder. Artistically he also had a keen eye for detail and precision and would wonders with his hands. He was a perfectionist. He also introduced his family to paintings through the masters like Picasso and his favorite Salvador Dali.

Jose enjoyed his many years at Fermilab because it made him feel like he was on a college campus. He loved learning, self-studying and growing his knowledge. If he wanted to figure something out, he would delve into book and a learn. No matter the subject, he always seemed to have some sort of knowledge about it. He was very supportive and quick to invest his time and show support.

His hobbies were karate and basketball. He coached his children from Romero/St. Nicholas, St. Joseph and at Aurora Central. He was a purist in basketball always stressing the fundamentals. He would take his family around the state to watch top talent in the country or even to go see the East/West rivalry games. In karate he helped discover the discipline in life and understanding strength, but also balance and how to remain calm under pressure.

He was a loving husband always keeping an eye on Reyna making sure she was ok and most importantly just being there for her. Jose also made sure the children did the same and show respect for their mother. They did most daily things together that most of don't have the opportunity to do. They would drive to work together, worked on the same floor and had lunch together. Their 34 years together is a true testament of their love and friendship. Jose's love for his wife has shown the children how to treat your special person in your life.

Jose is survived by his wife, Reyna; children, Jose Cardona III, Daniel Cardona and Jacqueline Cardona; his mother, Nilda Cardona; his sisters, Mildred Cardona and Wanda Cardona; his half-brother, Benjamin (Rosa) Cardona as well as many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Felipe Cardona, Sr. and a sister, Wilma Cardona.
