Laurel Ernest Anfinsen , 70 years of age, beloved husband and brother, passed away into the loving hands of our Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Aurora, Illinois and was a lifelong resident of the Aurora and Batavia area. He completed his B.S. in Mathematics (1961) and M.S. in Electrical Engineering (1967), receiving both from Illinois Institute of Technology of Chicago. For 20 years he was involved in civilian federally sponsored research, both for U.S. military (1961-1967) and for clinical trials (1992-2006) at the Hines Veteran Administration Campus. He retired from the government as an IT specialist. In industry, he programmed for the first software controlled telephone switching system (1967-1980) and also taught at the university level. He authored several technical publications. He was a member of various technical societies.

Mr. Anfinsen married Nanci (Beilman) in 1973 and joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Aurora, his hometown. He was a member of the Moose, the family fraternity, since 1982. He enjoyed travel, skiing, jogging, bicycling, and dancing with his lovely wife, Nanci.

He is survived by his wife, Nanci, his brother, Roger (Carol), and his sister Dr. Barbara Eichler (Thomas), two nieces, one nephew, and three grandnieces as well as Nanci's special cousins Joyce (Lynn) Nelson and their children and grandchildren. Mr. Anfinsen was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Anita (Nelson) Anfinsen.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 28 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora, IL at 11:00 a.m., with visitation for family and friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would very much appreciate donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 N.
