Obituary

Marilee (Hennessy) Murray, 82, of Freeport, IL, formerly of Aurora, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at Presence St. Joseph Center. She was born on June 17, 1937 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of the late James and Laurine (Rath) Hennessy.

Marilee attended school in Gilberts and Dundee, graduating from Dundee High School in 1954. She studied nursing, graduating in 1957 from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Aurora, and in 1963 from DePaul University, Chicago. She also went on to obtain a Master's Degree in Business Management from Aurora University in 1984. She furthered her knowledge by achieving certification from the CDC in Infection Control in Atlanta, GA, and implemented programs in Kane County area medical facilities. Her career spanned 42 years, retiring from Rush Copley Medical center in 1999.

She married Nufrio Santanni in 1972. He passed away in 1980. Marilee then married William E. Murray in 1984. He passed away in 2011.

Marilee received a 50-year medal from Joslin Diabetes Research Center. She beat diabetes daily for 70 plus years, a true victory! She loved her dogs - Duchess, Gus and Corky to name a few. Her most recent years were spent in Freeport at Oakley Courts, Heritage Woods and Presence St. Joseph Center where she made many wonderful friends. She especially loved the Lord and all her family, godchildren, co-workers and friends.

A very special thank you to all who assisted Marilee in any way during her life.Survivors include her sisters, Carol (late Leonard) Williams of Algonquin and Ellen (Eugene) Henk of Freeport. She is also survived by one aunt, three uncles, six godchildren, five nieces, two nephews, many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Joann Marie Hennessy and one grand-niece, Randi Leigh Borgmann.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 10 am - 12:30 pm at Healy Chapel, Aurora. A private Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church in Aurora, IL, with entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery to follow. Honorary Pallbearers are Rian Borgmann, Jim Brubaker, George Clooney, Larry Corts, Johnny Curry, Joe Henk, Al Kempfer and Brett Weiler. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced later.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls – Chicago, Joslin Diabetes Research Center - Harvard University, Holy Angels Parish – Aurora, or FHN Hospice - Freeport.
