Obituary

Richard "Dick" Sullivan, 86, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, surrounded by the loving family he created. He was born in 1931 to Peter and Ethyl Sullivan. He lived in Portland, ME for the first 18 years of his life.

Dick served his country with military service in the US Marine Corp. He graduated from Marquette University.

Dick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Phyllis Mulvanny, on August 25, 1956. From their love came their 'Big Clan.' Dick's family was his pride and joy! They filled his life with much happiness.

Dick enjoyed life. He had a quick wit, incredible vocabulary, and his "Grandpa-isms" will live on for generations. He was very active always moving, fixing or learning. He loved to go "junking" with his son, Danny, or various grandchildren. He was all about finding everyone in the family what they wanted or needed, whether it be a book, a tool, or that something special. He was an avid reader, and lifelong learner and shared this love with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Ethel Sullivan; a daughter at birth; son-in-law, Michael Capozziello and his siblings, Hazel Murphy, John Sullivan, Frank Sullivan, Anne Umphress, Mary Madden, and Buddy Sullivan.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Phyllis Sullivan; his children, R. P. (Mary) Sullivan, Jr., Terri Capozziello, David (Lynne) Sullivan, Danny Sullivan, Eileen (Jack) Miller, Becky (John) Burkhalter, and Jennie (Brian) Nash; his grandchildren, Angela Capozziello, Chad (Brittany) Sullivan, Cathy Capozziello, Paige (Tim) Roberts, Rob Capozziello, Matt (Blaire) Sullivan, Tony (Jenny) Capozziello, Katee Miller, Drew (Taylor) Burkhalter, Adam (Ashley) Miller, Brad (Danielle) Burkhalter, Nick Capozziello, Ryan Miller, Samantha Miller, Nate Nash, Patrick Burkhalter, Landon Nash, Kaelyn Joy Nash, Peter Burkhalter, Lanie Nash, and Charlie Nash; his great- grandchildren, Tori Curelo, Eddie Curelo, Isaac Roberts, Audrianna Capozziello, Simon Roberts, Adler Roberts, Sawyer Roberts, Liam Burkhalter, Isla Sullivan, Gus Burkhalter, Mac Burkhalter, and due to soon Mia Capozziello; his siblings, Judy Baldi, Chick Kirk, Peg Bachelder, Kathy Montanese, and Tim Sullivan. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and many others of which he considered his family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 3:30 PM- 8:30 PM at Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr, Sugar Grove, IL 60554 Visitation will begin with a brief prayer service. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 7, 2018 with a 1 hour visitation prior to mass at Holy Angels Catholic Church, corner of Lancaster and Hardin, Aurora, Il 60506. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Phyllis Sullivan for the needs of the family.
