Ruby Carter, 87, of Mt. Morris, IL, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL. She was born December 29, 1921 in Hickory Flat, MS, the daughter of the late Frank Merritt and Sara Loudella (Smith) Thompson, Sr.

Ruby was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church in Blue Mountain, MS and attended Leaf River Baptist Church in Leaf River, IL. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning her goods.

Survivors include her husband Jerome Carter of Mt. Morris, IL; daughter, Reba (George) Scott of Bradenton, FL; sons, James D. (Melissa) Winburn of Simpson, IL and Robert A. (Beverly) Winburn of Sandwich, IL; sister, Myrtle A. Jeter of New Albany, MS; brothers, James E. Thompson of Aurora, IL, William A. (Mary) Thompson of Aurora, IL, Frank M. (Carol) Thompson, Jr. of Earlville, IL; sister, Janice B. (Carroll) Smith of Jonesboro, IL and a brother Danny T. (Joanne) Thompson of New Albany, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Richard Smith of Aurora, IL, George Scott, Jr. of Jonesboro, IL, David A. Scott of Jonesboro, IL, Michelle J. Scott of Jonesboro, IL, Melissa A. Winburn of Marseilles, IL, James D. Winburn of Wheaton, IL, Kris Winburn of Sycamore, IL, Kelly (Steve) Danner of Bardwell, KY and Scott Stadler of Bardwell, KY and many great grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara J. Moody; a brother, Joe D. Thompson and a daughter-in-law, Oleeta (nee Rutherford) Winburn.

Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.
