Sherman M. Thompson, 99 of Aurora passed away Saturday November 21, 2009 at Alden of Waterford. He was born October 11, 1910 in Helmer, IL the son of the late Peter and Maggie (Tendall) Thompson.

Sherman was a member of the former Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora. He also was employed for many years at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

He is survived by his daughter, Dolores (Gene) Thompson Rourke of DeKalb, IL; his son, Dale Thompson of Palos Hills, IL; his four grandchildren, Mike (Lisa) Rourke of Homer Glen, IL; Dan (Judy) Rourke of DeKalb; Lynn Cochrane of DeKalb and Lisa (Rich) Mattis of DeKalb; eight great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews; his sister, Ethel Christian of Yorkville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Marie Thompson and five siblings

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2:00 p.m. November 25, 2009 at The Healy Chapel 332 W. Downer Pl. Aurora. Interment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
