Walter Ernst Greising, Jr., 91, died on Saturday, October 6, 2017. Walter was born in Chicago on February 1, 1927. He grew up on Seeley Avenue, and graduated from Lakeview High School.

He enlisted in the Navy, and served in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Walter returned from the war and enrolled in Valparaiso University, where he met his wife of 67 years, Ruth Renata Skornia. They married in 1951, and started their family in Calumet City, Illinois. They later moved to Chicago's Northwest Side. The family home on Waukesha Ave was the site of many years of Thanksgiving dinners for the extended family, where Walter and Ruth were famed for their generous hospitality. Walter worked as an accountant for US Steel, Signode Corporation, Welch Scientific, and GE Railcar leasing. Walter retired from GE in 1991, and moved to Bull Shoals, Arkansas, where they enjoyed many happy summers by the lake with their grandchildren before returning to the Chicago metro in 2014. A lifelong outdoorsman, Walter logged many hours on the water in sailboats and canoes. During his years in Chicago, he led many trips to the Boundary Waters with family and friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Jewell Bennet, and his brothers Bob and Jack.

Survivors include his wife; his sister, Janet Dankert of Mesa, AZ; sons Mathew (Faith), of Aurora, IL, Mark (Deborah), of Kansas City, MO, Jonathan (Taena), of Johnston, IA, and Daryl (Kim), of Elkhart, IN; six grandchildren; three step--grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 11 am at The Healy Chapel, 332 W Downer Pl. in Aurora, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Plum Landing or Jennings Terrace, both of Aurora.
